The English Department’s annual debate evening takes place in the third term. It is one of the
highlights of the English Department as it always includes fierce competition and spirited arguments.
Topics from the previous years have varied from controversial discussions such as “Is downloading
media from the internet morally wrong?” and “Should reality TV be banned?” to personal responses
on topics like “Should literature be taught in schools?” and “Should we be allowed to keep
domesticated pets?”
The debates are divided into four factions: HL and FAL, JNR and SNR. It is a great opportunity for
different learners to learn from each other and grow in their argumentative prowess. This year aims
to be no less inspiring than last year!
