14 dae nadat die skool begin in Januarie, word VSR-lede (een seun en een dogter) as leiers gekies om as klasverteenwoordigers op te tree.
They are also responsible to vote with the rest of the RCL learners that are chosen in July after the mid year exams for the Disciplinary committee as well as the representatives on the school’s governing body.

Mr. and Miss SHS is one of SHS’s yearly glamorous events that showcases the beauty, talent and creativity that the SHS learners have to offer.
At the beginning of the pageant 24 matric learners (12 girls and 12 boys) are selected by the school giving them the opportunity to participate in the event. Leading to the event, the 24 finalists are presented with three dressing themes which they have to present on the final night.
Themes such as ‘me in the future, 1960’s disco, clothes you will never see me in etc.’ and lastly the formal wear, where each finalist gets the chance to show their most elegant side.Finalist have photo shoot sessions with an inspired theme and an on camera questioning session which is used on the night of the event.
The SHS pageant for 2017 has raised the bar higher than expected. The finalist had a more challenging task at hand where they had to go and make an outfit made out of recycled material for the segment ‘trashion’.
Primary school learners were selected by their schools to open the ‘trashion’ segment in which they too were competing for the title of Mr. and Miss SHS Future. Jimmy Mine and Arista Riekert walked away with the title after winning over the hearts of the audience.
It has become a tradition that the finalists have to prepare an opening dance to get the show on the run, followed by an introductory walk. The finalist danced to the beat of Megan Trainor’s ‘me too’ and ‘Uptown Funk’ by Bruno Mars.
It is always difficult to pick one winner, as all the finalists do not fail to deliver their utmost best. Therefore we pick the best judges to help crown the winners in the different categories.Mr. and Miss Personality Mr. and Miss Photogenic Mr. and Miss Theme personality Viewer’s choice Mr. and Miss SHS along with the first and second placesMr. and Miss SHS is not just like any school pageant, every year we select a famous South African artist that can either host the show or entertain the audience with their music.
We have selected artists from Karlien van Jaarsveld, Brendan Peyper and in 2017 the comedian Schalk Bezuidenhout hosted the show.

This year will be no exception, we are looking forward to spoil every matriculant before their hard work starts for their preparation for the Trial exam.
Elke jaar met die hoof se verjaarsdag kompeteer die leerders van SHS in hul spesifieke grade teen mekaar om die beste koek voor te sit.
Slegs drie koeke word uit al die skeppings gekies, wat dit die ‘event’ van die jaar maak.

At the beginning of each year we always kick off with the athletic season, but for a hundred other learners it is Sing Song time.
Sing Songs at SHS is like any other sport, while athletes run for their medals the Sing Song learners sing for theirs, that is why they are called singing athletes who use their voices to make their school proud.For these learners, Sing Songs is not just an opportunity for them to participate. It is what they look forward to every year.
They enjoy singing out loud and not to mention dancing like they are featured in a music video. The year 2016 was the year history was made. Our singing athletes took home not only one but two titles for best school singing athletes and best ‘dirigente’.
The odds were truly in our favour when we represented the Hunger Games’ theme. We blew away the other schools with our war cry, we stole the show with our dance moves to the Spanish song Algo Me Gusta.
We had the judges’ attention from the beginning till the end. SHS singing athletes set the bar high with our Karlien van Jaarsveld’s ‘Geskeurde jeans’ dance. Sing Songs has become a part of the learners and a part of the school, we continue to keep the spirit of cheer alive throughout the year, always ready for the next win.
We are not just a group of a hundred individuals, but we are one BAKGAT family.
